The Past is still Present.

In "Things Fall Apart" there are several different issues that nowadays you still can notice, many would think that any of this situations are rare in this modern times, almost as if they were extinct, but in reality these things are present. For example the fact that men are stronger than women is something we can still observe in our daily lives, when people say that the man is the one that has to feed the family, or that they are not allow to cry or express any feelings because they are men and men don´t cry or show any weakness; weakness and sentimentalism are for women.

This last situation is present in every aspect of life, at work, at home, at school, showing how you feel is dangerous; in men´s life it means losing the power over something, in Okonkwo´s case, he could lose the respect of his family, an extremely important thing for them, in his time where manhood and names are one of the most essencial matters on their lives.

Names are another issue still present in our lives, an obvious example of this is the way we choose to go to the university. In our country if you are not part of the prestigious ones you are not good enough for a job. Other example are people´s surnames, if you have an unusual lastname it means that you are important or an important part of a community, your name gives you status. Okonkwo wanted this status as his ancestors had in their times.

Life is a circle, what  has already happened will happen once again.
